Proper advance puppy/dog-proofing your home will prevent unintended accidents by your pet, protect your belongings from damage and will begin your new Puppy/Dog learning good house habits.

1. Store human medical products safely away

1. Remove any and all small objects that might be swallowed – buttons, coins, puzzle pieces, rubber bans
2. Avoid leaving uneaten human food unsecured – some human foods may be toxic to your pet puppy/dog
3. Detergents, cleaning materials any and all chemicals must be securely locked away – toxic to puppies/dogs
4. Bundle away or safely conceal wires using cord covers – bitter-tasting deterrent sprays may be used on cords
5. Store unused electronics safely away
6. Block access behinds desks, TVs, entertainment units – any place your new puppy can hide from you

2. Dog-Proof Your Garbage/Refuse Bins

• Lock all trash/refuse bins not only against your pet dog, but all animals that may be savaging.
• Make certain that lids are locked down against dogs/animals lifting the lid with their noses.

• Daily supplements, peanut butter, shakes, protein bars, baked goods and most sugar-free products have toxic quantities of Xylitol.
• Always cautiously read labels on all products you purchase for your dog.

5. Alcohol and Pet Dog – Never!

• Keep beverages and beverage glasses/mugs/tumblers out of reach of your pet dogs licking these items. Be cautious during family festive events to keep our pet dog away from alcohol drinks.
• Wine, beer and other products containing alcohol causes vomiting, difficulty breathing, decreased coordination, tremors, coma even death.

6. Avoid Citrus Fruits

• Citric acid can cause irritation and depression of the central nervous system in dogs.
• Citrus fruits including stems, peels, leaves and seeds contain significant amounts of irritable citric acid and must be picked up/avoided at all times.

7. Mouldy Foods are Deadly

• Molds on foods such as nuts, dairy products and many grain products contain deadly tremorgenic mycotoxins.
• This causes stomach issues, severe tremors and seizures in pet dogs.
• Examine foods carefully and refrigerate as required.
