1. Safe Separation Techniques

As soon as the cat fight begins:

1. Create an instant distraction by using any loud noises available shocking the cats
2. Attempt to block their vison by skidding a piece of wood, a broom or cushion, whatever between the cats – be cautious not to get scratched
3. Spraying the fighting cats with water works well
4. Toss a blanket over one or both of the cats can/will disorient them and stop the fighting – instantly grab one of both of the cat combatants

You must be cautious and act quickly or you may incur post-fight undesirable veterinarian expenses/bills.

2. Action After Cat Fight

For Owners

Immediately after the cat fight:

1. Keep cats separate for a long period – even days if necessary – in separate rooms if in the same home – until both cats are in a recognizable calm state of contentment and no longer territorial
2. Immediately check of injuries – if injured visit veterinarian immediately to avoid infection
3. Do not punish the cats – this action will increase stress negatively and may create/lead to further aggression

You must take a cat fight seriously and initiate positive anti-fighting training.

3. Initiate Long-Term

Fight Prevention Training

There are steps you the owner can take to lessen potential for cat fights:

1. Cat fights are often fighting over territorial ownership – provide separate food and water bowls even rooms
2. Provide separate litter boxes
3. Provide separate hiding places
4. Provide separate sleeping beds/blankets
5. Cats are climbers – provide multiple cat trees, tree houses even different window ledges for viewing the outside natureSpaying or neutering may be the solution required
6. Fight prevention is the solution to cats antagonizing each other.

Caution is the main thought when separating fighting cats.
